I just heard some thoughts about better ways to take Avonex shots. A friend told me about a woman who had suffered from the same Avonex side effects I have been suffering but she had trained herself from not getting affected by those flu like symptoms any longer. She had tried many different ways but found out that it is best to take the shot earlier during the day and fight the side effects during the day. Instead of taking the shot at dinnertime she is taking her shot sometimes after lunch and keeps her regular life going. After a few weeks her body got used to dealing with those side effects until not only the shot but also the side effects were a piece of cake.
I should try this as well. But knowing how I felt two hours after taking my shot at 9:30pm — I am not sure if I could have been able to just stay up. Of course I know that when I have the flu it is better for me to stay in bed, as my body will profit from that. And I also know that those side effects are not getting worse whether I am up or not. Once they get into my system I will feel bad – but I am not sick like a person who suffers the flu.
It only seems to be a matter of the frame of mind in which we place our Avonex experience. Once we realize that we are not sick, but that we only feel sick we may be able to overcome this feeling. If I do have a fever and a bad bronchitis I know that I am better off in bed. So maybe making a distinction between real and fake causes might help us to overcome the side effects and see how Avonex is instead working within us in our favor. And maybe, if we stay awake, we can feel even better what Avonex is really doing for us.
It is worth a try for my upcoming shot.
